I did it too. :B
And what better day to do it than the thirty-second anniversary of my birth? Huzzah, let's trip back in time to see ( what I (and Ian) looked like in high school... )
Seems like silly little things are all I have time for nowadays... :P

Everybody's doing this Seven Songs meme, and as I'm such a sucker for them -and I recently discovered I like music videos- I HAD TO DO IT TOO. B:
List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to.
In no particular order they are:
1- Ievan's Polka, by Louituma.
This is my LOLcrack video! I first heard the a cappella version in a video posted on CuteOverload.com and went on a quest to find it. The "official" video features some German comedians (apparently) riffing the SNL skit. It's silly fun -be sure to watch the bouncer's chests! XD
2- Get a Move On, by Mr. Scruff.
I love his videos. :3 Stumbled across this in my iPod the other day and have dusted it off.
3- Learning To Fly, by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
I never realized how much I like this song. Something about the way it starts just makes me smile and feel good. I like to crank it as I'm driving down my country roads. :)
4- The Girl in Byakkoya, by Susumu Hirasawa (Paprika OST)
Ian pulled out this DVD the other day asking if I had liked it. Hello, I loved it! Satoshi Kon is one of my favorite directors, and the soundtrack to his latest work is really amazing. Susumu Hirasawa even granted free distribution of the title track!
5- King James, by Buckethead.
Not a video, but the best recording of the song I could find -the live videos posted on YouTube are great, but the sound is usually pretty bad and this song DEMANDS good audio. We picked up this album at the Valentine's show at the GAMH and I've been in love with this track ever since!!
6- Sail On Soothsayer (In Memory Of Aunt Susie 1932-2007), by Buckethead.
CLICK THE LINK AND THEN SPEND SIX MINUTES BEING TENDER WITH YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER. Or just weep at how you will never be as amazing as that. Either way, you'll feel a bit better.
7- Aunt Suzie (Space Cadillac), by Buckethead.
HERE'S NINE MORE MINUTES OF PASSION. Spend it well! (The album track is over 11 minutes if you need more time. :B)
Well that was fun! I could totally do that for all the songs in my iTunes folder, but then you would hate the spams, so... do it yourself and share! :D

Hey, hey! I've been keeping my
hd_worldcup post table up to date, and there is a lot of AMAZING stuff that you should check out. To date there are 32 fics and 12 works of art for your viewing (and voting) pleasure!
Also, I managed to finish my
hp_art_xchange gift pic for
zephre, which features Luna and Snape (and some pretty... volatile colors -what can I say, color is fun! :B).
In addition, I think I'm going to scrap
sherant_art. I can't host the mature images anywhere free, and I don't want to pay LJ. My DevArt account looks like the place I'll be throwing stuff in the future. I already posted all my old Zelda stuff there, and as the time and inclination strike me I'll add my other old (and new) stuff as well. DevArt is certainly more varied than I initially thought, which has surprised and pleased me. While yes, there is a never-ending wealth of ten-year-olds posting their copies of favorite anime pictures (I never did that as a kid; copying an entire picture felt like a waste), there are also many fabulously gifted and unique artists and photographers! Oh, and people write and post poetry but I'll admit, I'm there for the art -everything else is tl;dr (sorry!). Just remember that DevArt ISN'T a free stock gallery for you sticky-fingered types!! D:<
That's all for now, hope things are going well for you all! :)

The
hd_worldcup began last week and I thought I'd compile all the entries as they are posted over the next few weeks -just for fun and my own convenience. Fic for the event is posted Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, while art is posted on Saturday -there will be four entries each day (one each from teams Fanon, EWE, Epilogue, and Canon)! Yours truly is batting for Team Canon, but be sure to read, view, and support the fabulous efforts of ALL the teams!
That said, GO TEAM CANON! We worked for it! >:D

OMG, I LOVE THIS -"What if you spoke like you commented". XD
Warning for language. And for the sad fact that people really do talk like that. (I have never understood the appeal of a first comment that reads "first." But that's just me. :P)

I just finished up and sent my submission for
hd_worldcup with fifteen minutes to spare. Yeah, that's the way to work. :P Oy vey. BUT! I had a blast working on it and tried some different techniques, which is always fun. It was also WAY BIGGER than I originally intended, so I hope it paid off, yikes.
The fest goes live on April first (no joke) with fic and art from the four teams; Canon (the winners, of course!), Fanon, DH-compliant, and EWE. As they used to say, "Vote early and vote often!" Ideally you should vote once a day for Team Canon's entry. >:D
Okay, enough of this, back to the craziness that is life! Carpe Diem!

Disclaimer: This is a totally random post of some totally random personal observations. Your results may vary.
I didn't realize that I knew 99% of Tom Petty's greatest hits, how crazy is that? Yay for folks that listened to classic and pop rock radio when I was growing up. :B
Music isn't really a big thing with me -I tend to stumble upon things I like, get everything I can of it, and just play it over and over. I haven't listened to music radio in over eight years! (I only listen to news radio -no talk radio.) So not surprisingly, any new music either comes from soundtracks or from someone else playing it for me. I should also reiterate for the thousandth time that we don't have cable/satellite TV -never have- so I didn't grow up with Mtv and the like. Every now and then one of my friends would tape some of it and we'd watch it when I'd spend the night, or later, when my neighbors got a dish I'd tune it to Mtv to listen to while cleaning or housesitting. So my music video memories are very few and far between -but surprisingly ingrained.
Which brings me back to Tom Petty. When he played the superbowl I suddenly remembered seeing a video of his a long time ago, and the quest to find it began. All I knew was that it was kinda weird and the band were all tiny and playing with matchsticks and such -I could've sworn the whole video was just the tiny band playing. I've just watched it, and those segments compose 25 seconds -tops- of the six minute song, LOL! But I totally remember the whole Johnny Depp story, too, but like it was a separate movie or something. :P
And speaking of the Depp, he's gotta be our generation's Dick Clark -the man does not age! (Okay, he does, but he does it extremely well.) Not that I'm complaining, mind you. ;) I remember thinking he was quite cute in Nightmare on Elm Street and Cry Baby (even though it sucked hard). And man, he is just perpetually hot. Doesn't hurt that he's been in a million movies in lots of roles, either.
That's enough randomness for now; back to finishing up my
hd_worldcup submission -CANON FTW, BABY!! >:D

Why is it that when I have Real Work to do I abuse the crack?
Nothing good can come of it, I tell you.
And WTF am I doing up?! And why am I on the computer in the middle of a storm -after already losing some file progress to an outage?! B:<

New (but very late) giftart over at the always awesome hp_art_xchange.
I haven't yet decided how/if I want to start archiving stuff at devArt. I've kind of... never really liked dA (always thought the majority of posters were immature), but since posting those memes and learning how to "watch" artists I've come to like it more. I really like the "watch" feature as it saves me a lot of time going through bookmarks just to see that someone hasn't updated. I wanted to post all the old stuff somewhat chronologically, but now I've seen something where you can group art by category or something within your gallery -which would really make it easier and save me some time. But maybe that's a paid feature. I still haven't figured out the differences between paid and non-paid, aside from the number of thumbnails per pageview. Is paid worth it? :\
Anyway, I'm trying to work on some art stuff. It's been like pulling teeth for several months now (actually I think I would prefer to have my teeth pulled rather than draw sometimes :\), but I'm determined to get through my backlog. My idea for my
hd_worldcup submission is progressing and evolving more than I expected, but I think I'll be able to reign it in and come up with something pretty cool. CANON FTW, BABY! >:D

We got to see Buckethead at the GAMH in SF last night -what a Valentine's treat! :D Unfortunately Ian wasn't fast enough to get us tickets to tonight's show too, but ah well... I enjoyed what I got!
My pictures (video and giftart), ( let me show you them... )
So instead of going to see him again tonight we're going to do our taxes. Thrills. :B You lucky bastards better enjoy the show!!
Oops. Almost forgot these images are on Pbucket which may overload -but will recharge tomorrow.
I also did another meme at devArt! >:D

*GAG*
I HATE, HATE, HATE it when political campaigns and such use songs or music. To me it feels like it cheapens both the music and the cause. Like that song that came out within a day or so of 9-11? *brain curdles at the thought* Or maybe it's just because I can't stand most lyricists and singers, whatevs. It's likely also why I loved the songwriting bits in Wag the Dog -these kinds of songs are just so false and contrived! Arggh!!
Anyway. I stumbled across a video that actually made me laugh -A, because it's a spoof and B, because it's true.
Apparently the Obama camp developed a Yes We Can song & video, and as usual I'm sure I'm the last person on Earth to learn of it. Many people found it lovely and wonderful, and some found some great spoof material...
Have you seen McCain's song & video? AWESOME XD
I saw the McCain one first and I think it holds well on it's own without having seen the Yes We Can video. Of course, the context just makes it all the more amusing.
I don't want to bitch about politicians, I'd rather just laugh at them. :P

So I did that mega-popular HP art meme that's been going around, and it's hosted here, at devArt.
Why at devArt, you ask? Well I decided to let my Pbucket account revert back to free -partly because I didn't have the money to renew on time, and partly because I'm looking for greener pastures- and as I seriously underestimated how many people are still viewing my stuff (or maybe it's hotlinking?) I didn't want to risk posting an image that would be unviewable until the 16th. And I've been meaning to give devArt at try since they supposedly allow mature stuff -even though their TOS seems to say differently. So we'll see. In the mean time, go have a chuckle -I'm a whore for crack memes. :B

Sheesh, you try to go AWOL for a while and people do nice things! Thank you again, Leaky! Of course, it just makes me feel even worse that I haven't had anything new in ages...
Anyway, I'm still gone for a while longer -not sure how long yet (no, I'm not dropping out of the exchanges I signed up for, and yes, I'm still going to finish all the art I've meant to). I've pretty much decided to let my account revert back to free when it finally expires at the end of the year. Really, the only thing I'll miss is the icons -how I'm going to decide on just six I don't know, but it'll be good for me to do (I'm paring down a lot in my life). Life has shifted focus for me and fannish things are fading to the side, which I'm sure my lack of entries here has underscored. I do journal RL stuff, but I don't think it would have any interest to anyone (especially those who read this LJ) -there isn't even any art! And when I do eventually start posting art it won't be at all like the stuff here, so I'll spare you all the disappointment. If, however, you think you'd like hearing about my current exploits in bike riding, fatness and PMS, chicken and duck keeping, and many of my projects, troubles, and joys, then by all means drop me a line. Otherwise this or
sherant_art are your best bets for the programming you're used to. ;)

It just hurts that people will HATE me sight unseen (or discussion un-discussed) if I told them my opinion, simply because it differs from theirs. If there's one thing I do try to do, it's to not be filled with vile, spite, and hate. I'd like to think I'd give someone the benefit of the doubt, or at least hear them out -and even if we could never agree, to at least not be petty and malicious.
Ah, but that's what comes of spending the day reading sites and blogs about volatile social issues. :\
*glances at calendar* Gee, no surprise there. :B
Oh, and barring another mind-sapping heatwave tomorrow (which is, unfortunately, very likely) I'll reply to those waiting emails in a cogent manner. :)

I just received a really nice letter from the treasurer of the Duck Rescue Network thanking me for choosing them as my Blogathon charity. It seems that the donations came in at a very opportune time as they recently hosted their first duck rescue & care conference and the expenses have been mounting. So I want to relay that warm thank you to you who were so generous in sponsoring me! *hugs*
However, it seems the collected donations are nearly $100 less than what was promised, which means some of you possibly haven't fulfilled your pledge. I realize that the donations are on the honor system and that unexpected things can come up in life, but I can't deny that I'm rather disappointed about this -that's roughly a third of the promised total pledge! I'm not sure if it's good or bad that I found this out before I mailed the gift art, though it certainly makes me less enthused to do so. (Obviously this does not apply to those of you who have been in contact with me and have sent your donations to DRN! *hugs*)
So please, PLEASE get those donations in! If you've lost the emails from either Blogathon or myself, let me know and I can tell you the amount of your pledge and how to send it to DNR. It's never too late to fulfill your promise! :)
[edit] It's possible that the discrepancy between promised pledges and collected pledges is due to not mentioning Sherant/Blogathon in your donation payment (which isn't a problem, but obviously would account for the discrepancy and be impossible to trace since I can't ask DNR who donated what). However, you should have received a thank-you email from DNR with info about tax deductions, so that's one way to know you've donated. If anyone hasn't replied to my emails, please do so. :) I'll have another email out to sponsors and raffle winners out by late tomorrow.

- OMG, I got in to this year's
merry_smutmas -I've been trying for three years (continually thwarted by my own slowness) and now I finally got in! *dances*
- Spaced is the most awesome show. Totally. I'm going to get an all-region DVD player just so I can get the proper DVD (since it's not available state-side yet). But WTF people, the soundtrack torrent is out of my reach because there are never enough seeds. D: Thank you,
nqdonne!! :D
- Speaking of Spaced/Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz, can you Pegg/Frost shippers tell me why you chose "Fregg" as your ship name? Wouldn't "Pest" kind of make more sense? Or is that the reason; Fregg is cute nonsense and Pest is an actual (though applicable) word?
- Leonidas is hot, I would do him. There, I said it. :B (Take a fit, dark, attractive guy and give him an accent and my resistance is futile.) You can probably expect a bit of 300 crack art.
- So everyone knows about the use of 1 Corinthians 13:11-12 in the first Ghost in the Shell anime, but what about Luke 12:34 in Deathy Hallows? Anybody catch that? I'm assuming that it means nothing in the larger sense, and is just used as a platitude. After all, both references are used completely divorced of their original intent and context, so I'm assuming it's just for the "that sounds cool" effect. Indeed, I'm sure you could pluck a really inspiring out-of-context sentence from "Mein Kampf" if you tried. :\
- Why do printers run out of ink when you really need to print something? Is this part of Murphy's Law or something, seriously.
- I've been reading through various "request" lists on exchange communities (because there are some really awesome prompts in there!) and have been kind of disheartened by the seeming majority choice of fic over art. I mean, I know that fic writers outnumber fanartists by about a billion to one, but seeing post after post of "fic please", "fic only", or "FIC PWNS" (okay, that one wasn't real. :P) kind of dampens the fandom love as a whole for me. But I don't fault people for their preferences -you're free to like what you like! I just... take things too personally sometimes. Especially now, when it seems like fandom kinda has a "you get us into trouble, we can't be seen with you" attitude toward artists. :\ Ah well, I'm off to peruse the latest fic and art recs...
(clearly a sign that I am procrastinating)
( WANTED: Someone who can build a multiple-gallery site with a journal feature )
No time like the present. :\

OMG, I LOVE Hot Fuzz all over again -this time for the tv-version bonus footage. You kill me dead, you cheeky funkster. "The Greater Good," indeed. XD
So you know what this means... I NEED MOAR! Anyone got some great Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead icons (especially with the HF tv-language)? Anyone got the SotD soundtrack up for sharesies? Ian managed to pick up the Hot Fuzz CD yesterday at Amoeba's, and it's pretty cool -I wish there were more of the composed-for-the-movie music, but I'm still four tracks from the end yet, so it could be there, waiting for me.
[edit] Yep, it's all there in the final 23-minute track. :B
[edit2] Any of you dirty barstools know where I can get Spaced?! torrents to the rescue!
Funny thing about the soundtrack, I actually have the 45 of "I Can't Control Myself" by The Troggs -found it in my grandparent's records way back in junior high when I was hoping to find some lost Beatles records (no doubt it belonged to my mom or aunts). Totally random connection, hearing it again for the first time in a billion years on a soundtrack for a British action comedy.
/Pegg-Frost love
- I have a job offer that I'll be posting once I finish writing it, so if you think you'd like to work for me (XD) then stay tuned.
- For those missing MST3K, The Film Crew is about as close as we'll ever get to the SOL again. Haven't watched Killers from Space yet (it's sitting on the To Watch stack), but Hollywood After Dark was pretty funny, if not disturbing.
- And you cat lovers need to see this, best way to break up a cat fight EVAR. Kinda gross, but still... *dies*

Fiendfyre Rescue is done! :D
Of course, once I finish all my Blogathon stuff, I'll do the "clinging tightly" scene. ;) And many others, of course.
And to anyone who may still be wondering, I'm not planning on going anywhere (though I'm not too thrilled to stay, either, and have been checking out other options), though if worst comes to worst I may start using "sherant" at DevArt. But www [dot] sherant [dot] com will always point you to my current status, no matter what happens. :)
